Lehan Winifred Ramsay

I first began taking photographs at the age of 15. After graduating with a Bachelor in Visual Arts, I worked for several years producing art and for a time co-running an artist-run-space, received (with two colleagues) a Travelling Fellowship from the Australia Council, and helped to set up the Queensland Artworker's Alliance. At the end of 1990 I moved to Japan. I now live in Hakodate, Hokkaido, where my arts practice includes photographic works, painting, and large-scale collaborative projects. In 2003 I was co-producer and editor of the Hierarchies of Collaboration Symposium at ZKM, Germany.

My work has been purchased by two State Museums and two Universities in Australia, and I have consulted on educational and creative projects in Japan for Benesse Corporation and Fujitsu. In late 2008-early 2009 my work and art practice was featured in the "chisai na tabi" (A small journey) documentary series produced by NHK, shown nationwide and world-wide on their Satellite station. I was awarded a PhD in Visual Arts from Monash University's School of Art and Design in December, 2009.
